The Cretto di Burri ("The Great Cretto") is a giant landscape artwork undertaken by Alberto Burri in 1984 and left unfinished in 1989 (due to lack of funds), The work was inspired the old city of Gibellina that was completely destroyed in the 1968 Belice earthquake. Walking among the streets of the concrete that replaces the crashed houses and moving uphill or downhill, you can imagine and feel what drama village residents have lived at times of earthquake. In 2015, to mark what would have been Burri's one hundredth birthday, the work was finally completed. (Gibellina Vecchia, Province of Trapani, Italy)
