Crickhowell Bridge is a centuries-old stone crossing over the River Usk, famous for its quirky architectural anomaly: it appears to have 12 arches on one side and 13 on the other, the result of 19th-century alterations that widened the bridge asymmetrically. This oddity alone makes it worth studying from multiple angles, and the best way to appreciate it is from the riverbank below, where you can get low and use the repeating arches as a rhythm across your frame. A wide angle lens works well here, letting you capture the full sweep of the bridge reflected in the Usk on calm days. Overcast light flatters the aged grey stonework and eliminates harsh shadows between the arches. Early morning gives you the best chance of still water and mist rising off the river. The banks are accessible on foot from the town centre, just a short walk from the main car park. (Crickhowell, Powys, Wales)
