Crown Fountain
Crown Fountain in Millennium Park is one of Chicago's most distinctive landmarks, pairing two 50-foot glass brick towers with a shallow black granite reflecting pool between them. The towers display slow-changing video portraits of Chicago residents, and from May through October water spouts from a nozzle at mouth level, creating a playful and visually layered scene. Shoot from low and close to use the reflective pool as a mirror, doubling the towers and surrounding skyline; a wide-angle lens works well here. Overcast days give you even light that keeps detail in both the bright LED faces and the dark granite. At night the illuminated towers glow against the sky and reflect beautifully in the pool, making it one of the better after-dark compositions in the city. The fountain is fully accessible and sits right along the main Millennium Park path. (Chicago, Illinois, United States)
