De Vlijt Windmill

The De Vlijt Windmill is a striking blend of modern construction and traditional Dutch design. This new structure, built in 2001 on the base of an old mill deconstructed in 1965, stands six stories tall with an octagonal base and a classic smock design. The windmill's upper level is used for grinding seeds, while the lower four levels serve as office and living quarters. Although not open to the public, the mill's impressive exterior makes it a fantastic subject for photography, capturing the essence of Dutch engineering and aesthetics. Early morning or late afternoon light highlights the intricate details and surrounding landscape, making De Vlijt a prime location for photographers. The windmill's picturesque setting along the Sluisgracht canal adds to its charm, offering beautiful reflections and a serene atmosphere. (Meppel, Netherlands)
