About Eilandbrug
Kampen's Eilandbrug carries the N50 over the IJssel surrounded by a fan of steel cables hung from a soaring pylon. The bridge also has a lifting section that often opens for the tall sailing ships of Kampen's brown fleet, and any other tall boats that need to pass by. The land around is flat river meadow, whic lets the bridge stands alone against a wide sky. From the shoreline path you can use a wide lens to capture the full stretch of the deck with the pylon rising up over the far end. On the northern side of the river you can get right beside the pylon to use it as a leading line up into the cables. If you are lucky (or extremely patient) one of the Brown Fleet's traditional sailing ships will be on the river and slipping through the open lift span. This will add a nice sense of scale and a bit of history into your compositions. Since the bridge sits all alone surrounded by meadows, the pylon catches the first and last light of the day. This lets the cables stand out sharply against a coloured sky at dusk. (Kampen, Overijssel, Netherlands)
