Delta Lake

Delta Lake is a glacially fed alpine lake sitting high above the valley floor in Grand Teton National Park, its water colored a striking milky turquoise from rock flour carried down by the Teton Glacier. The iconic composition here puts the Grand Teton rising directly behind the lake, giving you a dramatic foreground to work with that few spots in the park can match. Shoot from the eastern shoreline to frame the peaks reflected in the still water, and arrive early in the morning before wind disturbs the surface. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well for capturing both the lake and the full mountain backdrop. The hike is roughly 4.5 miles round trip with significant elevation gain and a boulder scramble near the top, so wear sturdy footwear and start early to avoid afternoon thunderstorms common in summer.
