Dewey Point

Dewey Point is a dramatic granite overlook on the southern rim of Yosemite Valley, offering one of the least crowded yet most expansive views of El Capitan and the valley floor you will find anywhere in the park. From the edge, you can shoot El Capitan head-on across the valley, frame the valley walls receding into the distance, or look down toward Bridalveil Fall where mist and rainbows appear on bright mornings. A wide-angle lens works well for the full valley panorama, while a short telephoto lets you compress the layers of ridgelines. Golden hour light in the morning catches the north-facing granite walls beautifully, and late afternoon gives warm tones across the valley. The trail is about 8 kilometers out and back with moderate elevation, so arrive early to beat crowds and secure the best position at the rim. (Yosemite Valley, California, United States)
