About Dobrota Beach

Dobrota Beach covers a long stretch of pebble patches, stone piers and concrete swimming platforms along the waterfront. This was a village of sea captains, and their old stone palaces still line the promenade, some restored and some standing empty. The water off the platforms drops away fast, and through summer it stays flat and clear. Ideally try to plan your shooting adventure here to start early when the bay is glass and the light is soft. Getting low at the end of one of the many concrete piers lets the water fill the bottom of the frame and the far shore sits high in it. Light arrives late on this side, because the mountains rise straight up behind the village, so the far shore brightens while you are still in shadow. The light in the evening changes completely with the sun dropping behind the mountains on the far side of the lake. Both sunrise and sunset are fun to experiment with here since they give completely different feelings to the same compositions. The promenade is public and free the whole way, though a few piers in front of houses belong to those houses so make sure to stick to the public ones when you are setting up.
