Dodd Wood
Dodd Wood is a mixed conifer and broadleaf forest on the lower slopes of Skiddaw, offering a combination of atmospheric woodland interiors and elevated viewpoints over Bassenthwaite Lake and the surrounding northern Lake District fells. Inside the forest, the tall pine trunks create natural leading lines and layered depth, especially where light filters through the canopy on misty mornings. Following the trail up to Dodd Summit opens up wider compositions with Bassenthwaite Lake stretching below and Skiddaw rising behind you. Shoot early on overcast or foggy days for moody, diffused light that suits the dense woodland sections particularly well; golden hour adds warmth to the open summit views. Wear sturdy footwear as the trails can be muddy, and allow an hour or more to reach the summit. A wide-angle lens handles the forest layers and panoramic views, while a short telephoto compresses the fell scenery nicely. (Keswick, Cumbria, England)
