Eagle Aerie Gallery
Eagle Aerie Gallery is a striking longhouse-style building in the heart of Tofino, designed by artist Roy Henry Vickers and filled with his bold, flat-perspective Northwest Coast Indigenous artwork. The architecture itself is worth photographing, with its carved wooden facade, totem figures, and traditional design elements that stand out against the surrounding streetscape. Outside, shoot wide to capture the full facade and its relationship to the street, looking for overcast light that brings out the rich cedar tones without harsh shadows. Inside, the gallery opens into a serene, warmly lit space where Vickers' prints and paintings line the walls in vivid colors; a wide-angle or standard prime lens works well for capturing the interior atmosphere. Overcast days are ideal for both exterior and interior shooting, as the soft diffused light is common in Tofino and suits the warm tones of the space beautifully. Ask staff before photographing artwork directly. (Tofino, British Columbia, Canada)
