Engeweiher is a peaceful little pond tucked away in the forested at edge of Schaffhausen. Workers dug it out by hand in 1907 to build the country's first pumped storage plant. The small pump house still sits photogenically along the edge of the pond. Trees ring most of the shoreline, so still mornings will give you amazing reflections. The pump house is amazing to experiment with its pale paint job contrasting against the dark water. There is lots of shooting options like capturing it mirrored in the water on a calm day, or experimenting fog to create a more haunted tone to the shot. Plus autumn brings amazing colour to the surrounding forest. There is a forest path that circles the pond, giving you lots of space to experiment with angles and compositions. Since the pond is part of a public park, there are no entrance fees and it is open 24 hours a day so you can choose whatever time of day works best with your shooting style.
