Espadilla South Beach sits inside Manuel Antonio National Park, and that alone sets it apart from the busier public beaches nearby. Since this beach is part of the national park you will need a park ticket to access it, which leads to a quieter and more peaceful scene to explore. The beach is a stretch of white sand backed by dense rainforest that comes right down to the shoreline, so the green on white on blue layering is constant and looks great from almost any angle. Wildlife is a big part of the experience here too. Capuchin monkeys, iguanas, and sometimes sloths show up along the tree line, so keep a longer lens handy. The trail up to Punta Catedral gives you beautiful coastal views that are worth the short hike, especially for wider landscape shots looking back along the beach. The beach faces west and catches perfect light later in the day. Be aware that the park closes at 4 PM, and rangers start clearing the beaches around 3:30, so plan your timing carefully if you want that late afternoon light. Morning visits are great for wildlife and softer light filtering through the canopy. Bring what you need because there are no rental shops or restaurants on this side.
