Esplanade Riel Footbridge
This pedestrian suspension bridge spans the Red River in downtown Winnipeg, connecting the Exchange District to St. Boniface, and its asymmetrical cable-stayed design makes it one of the more architecturally striking bridges in Canada. The bridge's single pylon, fanning cables, and illuminated deck give you strong geometric lines to work with, and the glass-enclosed restaurant suspended mid-span adds an unusual focal point. Shoot from the Tache Promenade on the St. Boniface side for a clean broadside view that captures the full span reflected in the river below, or walk onto the bridge itself and use the cable lines as converging leading lines toward the pylon. Blue hour and nighttime are when this location truly shines, as the bridge lights up with warm artificial lighting that reflects beautifully on the water. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well from the riverbank, and you can get low near the water's edge for stronger reflections. (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)
