About Fewston Reservoir

Fewston Reservoir sits in the Washburn Valley north of Otley, one of four reservoirs spread out down the valley. Leeds finished building it in 1879, and Yorkshire Water looks after it now. Woodland runs right down to the shoreline around most of the reservoir. There is a loop trail that winds its way around (about six km long) that provides numerous photogenic views of the peaceful waterway. Ideally try and aim for a still morning when the mist sits just above the surface and the tree line reflects perfectly off the water. If the water levels are low enough you might be lucky enough to find stonework along the banks from buildings that stood here before the dam went in. This area is a certified Dark Sky Discovery Site, unusual for somewhere this easy to reach, so plan on coming back after dark if you are interested in experimenting with astrophotography.
