About Fjordenhus
Fjordenhus (Fjord House) is an irresistible location for architecture photographers. Four brick cylinders rise straight out of the harbour water with amazing views over the surrounding cityscape. The building was designed by artist Olafur Eliasson and was inspired by the surrounding Vejle Fjord. Its curved walls are cut through with big arched openings to give the feeling of the Fjord rising up above the water. Glazed green bricks are mixed in near the waterline, and blue ones take over as the walls rise toward the sky. From the plaza on Havneøen you can look out over the harbour with the soaring Vejle Fjord Bridge in the background. The footbridge out to the entrance makes a strong leading line, and the curved walls are great for experimenting with abstract details. On a calm day the harbour acts like a mirror to reflect the whole building. Plan on staying for blue hour and further into the evening. The lights come on inside the building and the arched windows glow against the darkening sky. The ground floor is open to the public and free to explore. The archways act as amazing framing for the surrounding cityscape so around each corner a new photogenic view appear. There is lots of parking around the harbour, and it's an easy walk from the train station. (Vejle, Region of Southern Denmark, Denmark)
