Fleming Mill
Fleming Mill is a rare surviving windmill sitting in LaSalle, offering a striking mix of exposed stone and wooden cladding that makes it unlike almost any other historic structure you will find in the region. The half-stone, half-wood exterior creates strong textural contrast, so getting close with a 35mm or 50mm lens lets you highlight those details against the sky. Shooting from a low angle emphasizes the tower's height and gives it a more dramatic presence, while a wider perspective from across the surrounding green space captures the full silhouette. Overcast days work particularly well here since soft diffused light brings out the texture in the stonework without harsh shadows. The site is accessible and open, so you have room to walk around and find your angle. Early morning visits tend to offer quieter conditions with fewer people in frame.
