Musée de Lachine
The Musée de Lachine gives you two distinct subjects in one visit: a remarkably preserved 17th-century stone manor house and one of Canada's largest outdoor sculpture collections spread along the St. Lawrence riverfront. The Maison Le Ber-Le Moyne, built between 1669 and 1671, has a rugged, weathered texture that responds beautifully to raking light, so aim for early morning or late afternoon when shadows emphasize the stonework and steep Norman-style roof. For the sculpture garden, overcast days work well since soft, diffused light lets you focus on form without harsh shadows. A wide-angle lens handles the architecture cleanly, while a short telephoto helps you isolate individual sculptures against the water or sky. Walk the riverside path to find compositions that combine sculptures with the open St. Lawrence behind them. The site is accessible and easy to navigate on foot. (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
