Florence Griswold Museum
The Florence Griswold Museum sits along the Lieutenant River in Old Lyme, Connecticut, and offers photographers a beautiful combination of a late-18th-century Georgian mansion, manicured gardens, and a picturesque riverside setting that was once the gathering place for American Impressionist painters. The white clapboard house itself photographs beautifully from the garden side, where flowering beds and mature trees frame the architecture naturally. The riverside garden and the dock area give you reflections and soft water tones to work with, especially in morning light when the river is calm. Late afternoon sun wraps the house in warm golden light that suits the painterly history of the place. A wide to standard zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most situations well here. The grounds are walkable and well-maintained, making it easy to explore multiple compositions without rushing. (Old Lyme, Connecticut, United States)
