This striking High Victorian Gothic building on Huntington Street rewards photographers who appreciate ornate 19th-century architecture. The stone facade, pointed arches, and decorative detailing that Leopold Eidlitz designed in the early 1870s give you rich texture and strong geometric lines to work with. Shoot from across the street to capture the full composition of the main structure, or move in close to isolate the Gothic stonework and carved details with a longer lens. A wide angle works well for showing the building in context with the surrounding streetscape. Overcast days are ideal here, as flat diffused light brings out the texture of the stone without harsh shadows obscuring the detail. Morning light from the east can add warmth and dimension to the facade. The building is accessible from the public street and easy to walk around for multiple angles.
