Gatineau River Yacht Club
This small sailing club sits along the Gatineau River in Chelsea, offering a relaxed waterfront scene with moored sailboats, wooden docks, and a forested Quebec hillside as a backdrop. The combination of colorful hulls, masts, and rigging reflected in the calm river water makes for strong compositional opportunities, especially when the boats are tightly clustered at the docks. Shoot from the dock edges to get low angles that emphasize reflections, or step back toward the clubhouse to frame the marina against the tree-lined hills. Early morning is ideal when the river surface is glassy and the light is soft, though overcast days also flatten harsh shadows and bring out the colors of the sailboats. A 35mm to 85mm lens handles most shots well here. The site is a private club, so be respectful of members and their vessels when visiting. (Chelsea, Quebec, Canada)
