Gimsøy kirke is a small, white wooden church sitting on a narrow strip of land between the Gimsøystraumen strait and the dramatic peaks of the Lofoten mountains, making it one of the more naturally composed church settings you will find anywhere in Norway. The classic shot frames the church against the mountains behind it, ideally from a low angle to include the foreground grasses or shoreline, but rotating toward the water side gives you reflections and open sky. Golden hour light is exceptional here, especially in summer when the midnight sun bathes the white walls in warm tones for hours. In winter, the snow-covered peaks and moody skies create a stark, atmospheric contrast with the bright church facade. The ropes anchoring the church to the ground are a detail worth including in a close composition. Parking is easy and the church is right off the E10, so access is straightforward. A wide to short telephoto lens covers most of what you need here. (Gimsøysand, Lofoten, Norway)
