Giotto's Bell Tower
Standing beside the Florence Cathedral, this 14th-century Gothic campanile offers some of the most rewarding architectural photography in Tuscany, with its intricate marble cladding in white, green, and pink creating bold geometric patterns that reward close-up detail shots as much as wide establishing frames. Position yourself across the Piazza del Duomo to capture the tower alongside Brunelleschi's dome for a classic pairing, or move in tight with a wide-angle lens to exaggerate the tower's height and pull in the decorative relief panels at its base. Morning light hits the western facade cleanly before the square fills with crowds, making it the best window for uncluttered shots. If you climb the 414 steps to the top, you get an exceptional elevated view of the dome and the city rooftops. A 16-35mm lens handles both the full tower and the surrounding piazza well.
