Perched along NF-660 in Lamoille Canyon, this overlook delivers a sweeping view of glacially carved terrain in the Ruby Mountains of northeastern Nevada, a surprisingly dramatic landscape that many photographers overlook entirely. The canyon itself tells a clear geological story, with sharp U-shaped walls, exposed rock faces, and remnant glacial features that reward wide compositions. Shoot from the overlook railing and work a wide angle lens, somewhere in the 16-24mm range, to capture the full sweep of the canyon walls framing the valley below. Morning light is ideal here, as the sun rises from the east and illuminates the canyon face with warm directional light that pulls out texture in the rock. The road is paved and accessible by regular vehicles during summer months, though snow can close the canyon into late spring. Afternoon brings deep shadows into the canyon, so earlier visits will give you far more usable light. (Elko County, Nevada, United States)
