Moraine Overlook

Moraine Overlook sits at the end of Lamoille Canyon Road in Nevada's Ruby Mountains, giving you a wide, elevated view across a classic U-shaped glacial valley carved during the last ice age. The exposed glacial moraine in the foreground provides natural texture and depth, while the valley walls rise steeply on either side, drawing the eye toward the distant peaks. Try shooting from low to the ground to bring the rocky moraine into the foreground and use the valley as a natural leading line. A wide angle lens works well here to capture the full sweep of the landscape, though a mid-range zoom lets you compress the layers of ridgelines. Morning light catches the eastern canyon walls cleanly, while late afternoon casts dramatic shadows across the terrain.
