Gloppedalsura is one of Northern Europe's largest scree fields, a vast stretch of enormous ancient boulders tumbling down a hillside in the Dalane region of Rogaland. The scale of the rockfield is what makes it so compelling to photograph, with the jagged, moss-covered stones creating texture and depth that rewards wide-angle shooting. Work your way into the boulders to find foreground interest, then use the receding lines of rock to draw the eye toward the forested hills and open sky beyond. Overcast days are surprisingly ideal here, as soft diffused light brings out the rich greens of the moss without harsh shadows between the rocks. Golden hour adds warmth to the stone tones and is worth the effort if you can time it. Wear sturdy footwear since the terrain is uneven, and a 16-35mm lens will help you capture the full sense of scale. (Byrkjedal, Rogaland, Norway)
