About Gorica Bridge
Gorica Bridge is an intricate historic bridge spanning the Osum River. This photogenic bridge features seven pale stone arches running from Gorica on the south bank to Mangalem on the north. The stonework is rough and hand cut, while the arches stand high enough above the water to keep a deep band of shadow under each span. Mangalem gives the bridge a perfect backdrop. White Ottoman houses climb the slope in tight rows, windows stacked over windows, with the castle walls along the ridge above them. Gorica on the far side is lower, greener, and much quieter so it gives a more peaceful backdrop that highlights the bridge. Below, the Osum runs shallow over gravel bars through summer and fills up with faster moving water in spring. When the water is low you can get down all the way onto the gravel and shoot at river level to experiment with reflection photography. The Mangalem slope faces south, so it keeps light all afternoon and turns warm late in the day. Aim to come at first light if you want to have the bridge all to yourself.
