Rising from a series of terraced, turquoise runoff pools along Firehole Lake Drive, this is one of Yellowstone's most visually spectacular geysers, offering both dramatic eruptions and beautiful surrounding features even between blows. The wide, shallow vent pool sits within concentric terraced rings filled with vivid blue and orange thermal water, giving you strong foreground interest regardless of whether an eruption is happening. Shoot wide to include the terraced pools as leading elements toward the erupting column, or go longer to compress the steam and spray against the sky. Overcast days reduce glare on the reflective water and saturate the mineral colors beautifully; early morning light on a clear day can also produce striking reflections. Check the predicted eruption times posted at the trailhead or on the NPS app before visiting, as windows are roughly 9 to 15 hours apart. A short, flat boardwalk loop makes access easy for all skill levels. (Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, United States)
