Grinnell Peak rises dramatically above Swiftcurrent Lake in Glacier National Park, offering one of the most iconic foreground-to-peak compositions in the American Rockies. The classic shot is taken from the shoreline near Many Glacier Hotel, where the calm lake reflects the jagged, glacier-carved face of the peak when winds are low, typically in the early morning. Frame the reflection with the shoreline grass or dock elements in the foreground for added depth, or use a wide angle lens to capture the full sweep of the valley. Sunrise is ideal, with alpenglow hitting the peak's rocky face before direct light flattens the texture. The area is accessible via the Many Glacier entrance road, and the hotel grounds give you easy access to the lakeshore without any serious hiking. A focal length between 24mm and 70mm covers most compositions well here. (Glacier National Park, Montana, United States)
