Groenerei Canal
The Groenerei is one of Bruges' most picturesque canal stretches, where medieval almshouses, arched stone bridges, and overhanging trees reflect perfectly in the still water below. You'll want to get low near the water's edge to maximize those reflections, using the canal itself as a natural leading line toward the bridges and facades beyond. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the scene, though a short telephoto lets you compress the architecture and pick out details in the old stonework. Early morning is ideal, when mist sometimes hangs over the water and you have the streets largely to yourself before tour groups arrive. Overcast days actually suit this location well, softening the light and reducing harsh shadows between the buildings. The towpath on either side gives you options to shift your angle and find clean compositions without parked bikes cluttering the frame. (Bruges, West Flanders, Belgium)
