About Hayman Blvd Gazebo
Hayman Blvd Gazebo is an amazing little hidden gem tucked away looking out over the sound on the back side of Kill Devil Hills. The wooden pier stretches out over a shallow and calm section of the waterfront with a small gazebo at the far end. The views here are especially photogenic at sunset. The pier points west across open water, so the sun drops right down the line of it. Everything on the deck turns to silhouette while the rich colours fill the sky and the reflection. Aim to expose for the sky and let the pilings and railings go black. There is lots of space to set up along the shoreline and shoot along the deck if you want to experiment with leading lines. Or set up inside the gazebo and frame the posts and roof around the water. Plan on staying after the sun is gone too. The surface is flat enough here that the last of the colour holds in the water for a good while. Parking can be tricky since there is only a short row of public spaces on W Hayment Blvd across from the pier, and those often fill up on summer evenings.
