Huilua Fishpond is a beautifully preserved ancient Hawaiian fishpond sitting at the edge of Kahana Bay, framed by lush green valley walls and calm, reflective water. The stone walls curving into the bay make for a compelling foreground element, and you can compose wide shots that include the surrounding mountains and the bay's gentle shoreline together. Early morning is the best time to visit, when mist sometimes clings to the valley and the light is soft and even, reducing glare on the water. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing the full curve of the fishpond wall against the broader landscape, while a longer lens lets you isolate details in the stonework or pick out reflections. Parking is available just off Kamehameha Highway, and the pond is a short walk from the lot. Keep in mind the area can be muddy after rain. (Kahana, Oʻahu, Hawaii, United States)
