Ilulissat Icefjord is one of the most dramatic ice landscapes on Earth, where colossal bergs calved from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier drift in dense, chaotic formations before pushing out into Disko Bay. You can approach from three directions: a boat tour gets you right among the ice for towering, close-up perspectives; the raised boardwalk trail to Sermermiut gives you elevated overlooks with the fjord spreading out below; and the marked Blue Route hiking trail offers more rugged, intimate compositions along the ice edge. A wide-angle lens handles the scale well, while a telephoto compresses the layered bergs into striking abstract patterns. Visit in summer when the midnight sun lingers low on the horizon, turning the ice from brilliant white and blue to deep amber and red in the late evening hours. Dress in warm layers regardless of the season, as wind off the ice is biting even in July. (Ilulissat, Greenland)
