The Innovation, Science and Technology Building is the main building of the Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland. It's crisp white dome is ringed by curved shade fins that create an intricate pattern around the entire exterior. The roof is made up of 94 movable white metal slats that tilt through the day to track the sun, so at times the whole top seems almost alive as they each move at a slightly different pace. Down at ground level, curved white canopies wrap the terrace and walkways in repeating arcs, creating endless architectural photography options. The whole structure sits surrounded by ponds and slender causeway paths, that create amazing opportunities to experiment with reflection photography. Pick the shore the light is falling on, wait for still air and your patience will be rewarded. A very early morning will give you a crisp mirror with soft light and usually very few people. Midday is worth staying for too, when the white shell pops against a blue Florida sky and the roof slats throw crisp shadows. The causeways that criss-cross the ponds double as leading lines straight to the entrance. The campus is open and free to wander, with visitor parking right beside the building off the Polk Parkway. Remember that it is a busy university so you will have to balance ideal light with students and professors so be aware of your surroundings while you set up.
