The Itsukushima Floating Torii Gate is the site's most recognizable landmark. Uniquely it appears to float in the water during high tide but then is completely accessible during low tide. Paths lead around the inlet and after the sun has gone down, the shrine and the torii gate are illuminated, providing a perfect backdrop for visitors to enjoy an atmospheric illuminated evening walk.
