Kintai Bridge is a stunning five-arched wooden bridge spanning the Nishiki River, first built in 1673 and renowned for its elegant repeating curves that reflect beautifully in the calm water below. The arches themselves are the main subject, so position yourself on the riverbank to capture the full sequence of spans, using a wide or standard lens to show all five in a single frame. A low angle near the water's edge emphasizes the reflections, especially in the early morning when the light is soft and the river surface is still. The bridge also photographs well from slightly elevated positions on either bank, which flatten the perspective and accentuate the rhythmic pattern of the arches. Visit in spring for cherry blossoms framing the structure, or in autumn for warm foliage. The riverbanks are easily accessible and give you plenty of room to experiment with framing.
