Vienna's Palace of Justice is a monumental Neo-Renaissance building that rewards photographers both inside and out. On the exterior, position yourself across the Schmerlingplatz square to capture the full symmetrical facade, and use a wide angle lens, around 16 to 24mm, to fit the imposing scale into the frame. The grand central entrance and ornate stonework also make strong close-up compositions. Inside, the real prize is the soaring central atrium with its iron and glass skylight roof, multiple gallery levels, and elegant arched walkways stacking upward in layers. Shoot from the ground floor looking up to emphasize the height, or lean over the upper railings for a dramatic top-down perspective. The interior is best on overcast days or midday when diffused natural light floods down through the skylight without harsh shadows. Access inside is permitted on public open days, so check the court's schedule before visiting. (Vienna, Austria)
