Kapelle Bannalp
Perched above Bannalpsee in the Swiss Alps, this tiny white chapel sits beside a calm glacial lake with dramatic rocky ridgelines rising steeply behind it, creating one of the most naturally composed scenes in central Switzerland. The reflection of the chapel in the lake is the signature shot here, best achieved with a wide-angle lens from the shoreline directly in front of the structure, keeping the waterline low in the frame to maximize the mountain backdrop. Morning light works beautifully as the peaks catch the first alpenglow and mist sometimes lingers over the water; overcast days also produce soft, even tones that suit the pastoral mood of the scene. The area is reached by a gondola from Niederrickenbach followed by a moderate walk, so plan for extra time and wear sturdy footwear. A focal length between 16mm and 35mm handles both the full landscape and tighter compositions of the chapel facade. (Wolfenschiessen, Nidwalden, Switzerland)
