The grounds surrounding this historic drovers' inn sit at the edge of Rannoch Moor, giving you one of the most dramatic mountain backdrops in Scotland, with Buachaille Etive Mòr rising sharply across the flat, open glen. Position yourself near the low stone walls or along the riverbank of the River Etive to frame the mountain with foreground interest, and try a wide angle lens to capture the full sweep of moorland stretching out before the peak. The area is frequently visited by red deer, so move slowly and stay quiet, especially in the early morning when the chances of a close encounter are highest. Golden hour light is exceptional here, painting the mountain in warm reds and oranges, and misty mornings add mood and depth to the landscape.
