About Krogstadsudde Lighthouse
Out at the tip of Krokstads udde, about 20 km north of Varberg on Sweden's west coast, Krogstadsudde Lighthouse marks the entrance to Bua harbour. This little white tower with a pop of red on the roof was originally built in 1928 to bring fishing boats into Bua and Videberg. The headland around it is bare granite slabs with pools and cracks between them. Those rocks create amazing foreground shapes. Getting low to the rocks lets a slab run out of the corner of the frame or pull the eye toward the tower. The horizon is wide open to the west, so the sun sets straight out to sea. Evening light warms the white boards and red roof, plus a windy day puts spray across the rocks below. Winter storms are worth battling the wind for the dynamic waves. The lighthouse is easy to access, just drive out to Bua harbour and park there, then walk the last stretch on marked paths. The granite turns slick after rain or high water so be careful where you set your gear up. Marked trails run through the shoreline and woods nearby if you want to make a morning of it. Early or late is quieter, since plenty of people walk out here in summer. And sunset offers incredible colours over the water. (Bua, Halland, Sweden)
