About Lotsutkiken
Lotsutkiken is a cute little red lookout cabin sitting on the highest rock of Vrångö Island. Historically pilots kept watch from here for ships heading into area from the 1600s until the 1930s. This rock sits up so high, you can spot the cabin from most of the island. You can start with a shot that captures the little cabin from the west harbour, this view lets you put the red walls up high on the skyline above the boathouses. The route up to the rocky viewpoint winds up stairs tucked between old wooden houses, and takes you along a rock path worn smooth by generations of pilots. Up at the top the views, and composition options, feel endless. You can frame the cabin with open sea behind it, or use a longer lens on Vinga lighthouse to the northwest and let the low rocky islets stack up in between. Evening is the ideal time to be here. The view faces west over open water so the low sun warms the red walls even more, and once it drops into the sea the cabin makes a clean dark outline against the colourful sky. The island is only accessible by boat but ferries run year round from Saltholmen. From the dock it's about a 10 minute walk across the island to the west harbour and the stairs.
