La Rotonde Ledoux is a striking neoclassical customs house built in 1788, sitting at the edge of the Bassin de la Villette in northeastern Paris. The cylindrical stone structure with its colonnaded facade and bold geometric proportions makes it a compelling architectural subject, especially against the long stretch of water behind it. Shoot from across the basin to capture the full rotunda reflected in the water, or get closer to emphasize the columns and stonework with a wide angle lens. The building faces roughly south, so morning light catches the facade cleanly and gives you good shadow detail in the columns; overcast days also work well for even, flattering tones on the pale stone. A 24-70mm range covers most angles comfortably. The surrounding plaza gives you room to frame low and wide, or step back and use the canal as a natural foreground element.
