Wall of Love
Tucked into a small public garden in Montmartre, this mosaic wall features the phrase "I love you" written 311 times in 250 languages across deep blue and black enamelled lava tiles, with fragments of red scattered throughout to represent a broken heart made whole. The compact scale of the wall works in your favor: get close with a 50mm or short telephoto to isolate individual inscriptions or pull back slightly to capture the full composition with people standing before it. The surrounding greenery and benches give you framing options, and including visitors adds a sense of scale and human warmth. Overcast days are ideal since the tiles can reflect harsh sunlight and wash out detail; soft diffused light brings out the depth of the mosaic colors. The square stays open year round and is easily reached on foot from Abbesses metro station, just a short walk downhill. (Paris, Île-de-France, France)
