Lac d'Ambin
Lac d'Ambin is a remote glacial lake nestled in the French Alps above Val-Cenis, near the Italian border. Surrounded by jagged peaks and rocky alpine terrain, the lake sits at over 2,400 meters and offers photographers a pristine setting for capturing mountain reflections, wild textures, and dramatic light. The water is crystal-clear, often mirroring the surrounding ridgelines during calm conditions. Reaching the lake requires a moderately challenging hike through the Vallon d'Ambin, passing through meadows and scree slopes that present excellent photographic opportunities along the way. Best visited from late spring through early autumn, Lac d'Ambin is especially striking at sunrise when soft light washes over the peaks. (Val-Cenis, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France)
