Lake Hefner Lighthouse

The Lake Hefner Lighthouse is a unique New England style lighthouse in landlocked Oklahoma. It was built in 1999 as a working replica of Brant Point Light near Nantucket, with its hexagonal concrete tower and red light that flashes from dusk to dawn. The lighthouse sits on the eastern shore of Lake Hefner, so the sun sets behind it out over the water, which makes it the perfect location for sunset photography. There are endless sunset possibilities; shooting from the point or the adjacent shoreline with the tower against the colour, using the wharf and walkways as leading lines. Dusk is also when the red light comes on, so if you time it carefully you can catch the lit beacon against a still glowing sky. The white tower with its red trim photographs cleanly year round, with a dusting of snow in winter and sailboats from the marina often filling the background.
