Le Pont du Saint-Esprit is a remarkable 14th-century bridge stretching across the Rhône River in southern France, originally built with 23 stone arches over the course of 44 years. A vital historical and architectural landmark, it showcases centuries of engineering evolution. In the 19th century, part of the bridge was modified—two arches near the town entrance were replaced by a single iron span, later destroyed during an Allied bombing in 1944 and rebuilt in concrete in 1954. This mix of medieval stonework and modern additions offers photographers a unique contrast of styles, especially compelling when captured in soft light reflecting off the river. Easily accessed from both riverbanks, the bridge provides strong leading lines and symmetrical views, ideal for architectural and landscape compositions. (Pont-Saint-Esprit, Occitanie, France)
