Lipan Point is one of the South Rim's most expansive and least crowded overlooks, offering a sweeping panorama of the Grand Canyon that stretches from the Colorado River below to layered temple formations including Apollo, Venus, and Jupiter. The wide, unobstructed view makes it ideal for grand landscape compositions, but the real reward is how the canyon bends here, allowing you to capture the river snaking through the gorge in a way that few other viewpoints allow. Sunrise is exceptional, with warm light raking across the canyon walls and creating strong shadows that define the geology; sunset works equally well as the reds and oranges intensify. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range handles the scale well, though a telephoto lets you isolate the temple formations. The pullout is accessible by car along Desert View Drive and has enough room to set up a tripod without crowding. (Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, United States)
