This viewpoint sits on the River Trail just above Phantom Ranch, where Bright Angel Creek flows into the Colorado River deep inside the Grand Canyon. The confluence below makes a natural focal point, and you can frame the meeting of the two waterways against the layered canyon walls rising dramatically on all sides. A wide angle lens works well to capture the scale of the inner gorge, while a longer focal length lets you compress the creek mouth against the river's green water. Early morning light filters into the canyon floor for a relatively short window, so arrive at first light to catch warm tones on the Vishnu schist walls before the scene falls into shadow. This spot requires hiking in, either via the Bright Angel or South Kaibab Trail, so plan accordingly; the River Trail itself is flat and easy once you reach the bottom.
