Lodbjerg Fyr

Lodbjerg Fyr is a grey granite tower sitting all alone at the south end of Thy National Park. The blocks were quarried locally when the tower went up in 1883. The lighthouse sits surrounded by rolling dunes, so you can experiment with various compositions of the tower tucked away in the dunes or framing the whole tower against sky from any side you like. Late sun from the west warms the granite and adds rich colours behind the tower. The lighthouse is still in use today, so aim to stay for dusk and experiment with long exposures to catch the beam sweeping out over the dunes. You can also climb the tower and get a full view from the gallery with dune plantation and open sand to the north, the Limfjord to the south, and the North Sea filling the west. Once you are done capturing the lighthouse take some time to walk along the beach where there are abandoned wartime bunkers sitting in the sand. There is a small fee to climb the tower and it is open daily, year round. Volunteers run a coffee room in the old keeper's house over the summer. (Vestervig, North Jutland, Denmark)
