Lodbjerg Sande is a quiet patch of drifting sand that looks out over Jutland's North Sea coast. Centuries of wind and erosion have kept this small pocket of dune constantly shifting and quite bare. The sands never sits still, shifting into fresh ridges and ripples between one visit and the next, making this a place you'll want to shoot over and over again. As you walk out along the marked path from the car park you'll be able to capture the rippling patterns as they appear on the edges of the dunes. Using the sweep of the dunes will lead your eye out toward the endless sea. Ideally aim for the low sun in the early morning or late in evening as it spreads sideways across the sand, throwing shadows into every ripple and dune crest. South along the shore, the dark clay cliff called Sorte Næse rises from the sand as a striking change from the pale dune colours. Since the sand is constantly shifting some spots may not be as stable as they appear so make sure to walk carefully near any edge. Since the dunes are part of a protected ecosystem make sure to stick to the marked paths and avoid climbing or sliding down the steep faces. This will protect the plant cover holding the edges of the dunes in place and keeps you safe on ground that shifts more than it looks. Access to the beach is free and open year round, although nearby heath and dune areas do close for part of spring to protect nesting birds. If you are planning your photo adventure for the spring it's best to check the current restrictions before you head out. If you are lucky enough to arrive there on a windy day you should be able to experiment with having the sand actively moving in your shots. (Bedsted, North Denmark Region, Denmark)
