Louisburg Public School

The old Louisburg Public School sits at the north edge of Louisburg, a town of about thirty people in western Minnesota. It went up in the summer of 1911 and was in use for roughly fifty years. Grade school classes met downstairs and high school upstairs, until the county consolidated its rural schools. Even though the building has slowly been falling into disrepair the red brick still pops and the wooden bell tower still stands tall. Above the double front doors sit a concrete panel where you can still see the words "Public School". It faces south onto First Street, so the front gets light through most of the day. Shooting it square on from the road, lets you highlight the contrast between its rich brick tones and state of disrepair. Big trees on the lawn crowd the frame in summer add rich green tones to contrast with the reds. The schoolhouse does sit on private property, so make sure to stay on the public roads and keep off the grass. (Louisburg, Minnesota, United States)
